Place: Building, Am Neuen Palais, Universitaet Potsdam

Auscultation of third heart sound has been performed for more than a century, an interest that not only persists today, but also has experienced renewed emphasis.
This lecture will review the physiology of heart sounds in general, and the clinical and prognostic implications of the third heart sound in particular.
In order to achieve automatic segmentation of the heart sounds signal into its 2 major components and the pathologic third heart sound, 3 methods are outlined and compared: Recurrence Quantification analysis, Hilbert Transform and S-Transform.
