"Entanglement: A philosophical curiosity becoming a resource in quantum
communication and quantum computation"

Quantum entanglement, called by Albert Einstein "spooky action at a distance",
was the essential characteristic of quantum mechanics to Erwin Schrödinger.
Its conceptual significance is that a local realistic viewpoint is untenable
as confirmed by numerous experiments today. Most interestingly, quantum
entanglement has recently become an essential resource in various quantum
information protocols. These include quantum cryptography and quantum
teleportation. In the talk, I will review the experimental status and
possible future applications including world-wide satellite-based quantum
communication. Most recent results show that novel kinds of entanglement play
a crucial role in the novel concept of one-way quantum computation, which
might even provide new insights into the nature of computation itself.

der Vortrag findet im Zentralgebaeude statt!!
