The Cassini UV imaging spectrograph and Saturn's wandering shepherds

The joint NASA-ESA Cassini Orbiter carries an ultraviolet spectrometer built at the University of Colorado. This experiment has already produced movies of the invisible emissions of Jupiter's Io torus on the way to Saturn. During the 4 year mission at Saturn, Cassini will investigate the wayward motions of the moons Pandora and Prometheus. I have modeled their behavior as a stochastic process. I will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of my proposal and its implications for the history of planetary rings.
