Due to the high concentration of external institutes and research centres, the department maintans a lot of interdisciplinary collaborations (e.g. in earth sciences, oceanography, climate and astrophysics, physiology, biology, medicine etc.).

University of Potsdam

The University of Potsdam was found in 1991. It is located on three different sites in Potsdam (Am Neuen Palais, Babelsberg, Golm). The faculty of science is currently moving from the site Am Neuen Palais to the Science Campus Golm.

The study terms are divided in winter semester and summer semester. The winter semester starts at October 1st end the summer semester starts at April, 1st. Please note, that the lectures start usually two weeks later. The exact start date of the lectures can be found in the current list of courses.

City of Potsdam

Potsdam is a world heritage site and the historical residence place of the former prussian emperors. Many historical palaces, parks and buildings bear wittness to the great past.

For the entire Germany, Potsdam has the highest density of scientists per inhabitant, is the city with the highest natural population growth, and after Munich the city with the fastest economic growth. Many famous science institutions are located in Potsdam, e.g.,

Potsdam is the capital of the federal state of Brandenburg and has 120 000 inhabitants. It is located directly besides Berlin. Train connections ensure quick transport between Berlin and Potsdam (20-30 min).
